I have the honour to acknowledge with thanks the receipt of Your Excellency's letter of the 9th instant enclosing copies of despatches which you have addressed to His Lajesty's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs

and to His Majesty's Consul-General at Canton on the subject of the removal of German subjects from the Brit-

ish Concession on Shame en .

I beg leave to say that I concur entirely in the view which Your Excellency has expressed. The information at the disposal of this Government shows that there is no justification for advocating the suggested removal.
